It could be something like roseacea, but I'm not an expert. You should have a dermatologist (see the earlier the better).

I think what your friend did May (I can not diagnose!) Hemangioma. This is an unusually dense clusters of enlarged blood vessels (capillaries) that occur in the skin or internal organs.

The classically recognized hemangioma is a visible lesion, the skin is red in the upper layers of the epidermis (capillary hemangioma), deeper in to the skin (cavernous angioma) or a combination of both.

Hemangiomas, both deep and superficial, subject to a phase of rapid growth, the rapid increase in the volume and size. This phase is a resting phase followed in which the hemangioma changes very little, and an involutional phase in which the hemangioma begins to disappear.

Large cavernous hemangiomas may be secondary infections and ulcers. Bleeding is common, and much can be after an injury, the hemangioma.

Symptoms ----

* A red, red-purple, raised lesion on the skin
* A massive, raised tumor with blood vessels (a possibility)

Examinations and Tests
Hemangiomas are diagnosed by a physicalCal examination. In the case of deep or mixed lesions, a CT or MRI are performed to ensure that deeper structures are not involved.

Treatment
Superficial or "strawberry" hemangiomas often are not treated. If they disappear by themselves, the result is usually normal-looking skin. In some cases a laser can be used to eliminate the small vessels.

Recently, lasers have been used to reduce the volume of the hemangioma to. Lasers emitting yellow light selectively damage the vessels of the hemangioma without damaging the overlying skin. Some physicians use a combination of steroid combined injection and laser therapy.

Expectations (prognosis)

Small, superficial hemangiomas should disappear by itself. Large cavernous hemangiomas should be evaluated by a physician and appropriate treatment.

Complications

* Bleeding
* Impaired vision (amblyopia, strabismus)
* Psychosocial Problems
